Working as a freelance photographer represented by an international agency. She shoots major international fashion campaigns, travel photography for international magazines, style photography for editorials and campaigns, celebrity portraits, and sports campaigns. Since 1988, Cathrine Wessel has exhibited at numerous galleries in New York, in both solo and group exhibitions.

Cathrine Wessel studied documentary photography under Mary Ellen Mark, Ralph Gibson, Amy Arbus, Art Kane, and Cornell Capa at the International Center of Photography (1987–1988). She subsequently established herself as a photographer in NYC and has worked with prominent clients worldwide, particularly in the fields of music, portraiture, sports, fashion, and travel, with a focus on documentary photography and storytelling. Wessel’s clients include, among others: Spin, Rolling Stone, Vogue, Elle, Glamour, Marie Claire, and Condé Nast Traveler. Among others, she has photographed Julianne Moore, Gigi Hadid, Neil Young, Michael Jordan, and Harvey Keitel, and has worked with several major American brands such as Nike, Adidas, Reebok, The North Face, Nautica, and Under Armour. Wessels’ contributions to photography were honored in 2023 with the Photography Award. She has exhibited at Shoot Gallery, Oslo Negativ, Fotografiens Hus, Nordic Light in Kristiansund, and several galleries in NYC, including the Howard Greenberg Gallery, Staley Wise Gallery, and the Museum of Natural History.
