About the photographer
He studied architecture at Università la Sapienza before switching to photography. He has been a member of Magnum Photos since 2005 and was a staff photographer for Newsweek for ten years. He is the recipient of ten World Press Photo awards, the Robert Capa Gold Medal, and the W. Eugene Smith Grant.
