Paris, Capital of Love, 2018

Born in France in 1996 to a Dutch mother and a French father, Margaux Helleu grew up in Hong Kong, London, and Paris. She began photographing street scenes, environmental issues, and live music before studying at the Savannah College of Art and Design in Hong Kong (2014–2016) and later at the International Center of Photography in New York, in the documentary and photojournalism program. She is based in Paris. 

Her long-term project follows street collectors and recyclers, first in Hong Kong and later in Brooklyn, where the project “Is the Trash Singing” was selected for Women in Photography in 2021. She held her first solo exhibition in Hong Kong in 2015, followed by “On the Road Again” (2016), a series featuring images from twelve countries; one photograph was cataloged at Christie’s Hong Kong and sold for three times its estimate. In 2020, she curated the group exhibition “Ode to the Odd” in Hong Kong, which was presented again in Arles in July 2025 and attracted over a thousand visitors.
