Morten Andersen began taking photographs at the age of 14. He bought a Canon AV1 with his confirmation money, and he’s been into photography ever since. For a long time, he worked with images from urban and music scenes and, for example, contributed photos to the music magazine *Beat*. As a teenager, Morten read *Fotografi* and Swedish photography magazines. That’s where he first became acquainted with world-renowned photographers such as Christer Strömholm and Anders Petersen. The Time/Life books on photography introduced him to giants such as Henry Cartier-Bresson and Robert Frank, as well as Brassaï, Garry Winogrand, and, not least, Japanese photographers like Daido Moriyama and Shomei Tomatsu. In high school, Morten began freelancing before enrolling in the photography program at Strømmen. He worked as a darkroom assistant at VG for 11 years, and in 1990 he traveled to the International Center of Photography in New York for a year of study under, among others, Nan Goldin. That same year, Morten Andersen produced the first of a series of photo books.
