Andersen trained as a dentist in Bristol, UK. He later completed his military service in the photography department at the Air Force Technical School in Kjevik and in the Air Force photography department in Kjeller. He worked for photographer Sjøwall in Oslo in 1964, and the following year he was a student at the Staatliche höhere Fachschule für Photographie in Cologne (1965). Bjørn Falch Andersen practiced as a dentist his entire life, but worked as a photographer for *Verdens Gang* during his vacations from 1966 to 1969 and in his spare time. He was a member of the Oslo Camera Club and the Association of Independent Photographers.
