About the photographer
Sir Isaac Julien CBE RA was born in London in 1960. He is one of Britain’s most influential and critically acclaimed artists working today, and a pioneer of multi-screen installations.
In April 2023, Tate Britain opened the United Kingdom’s first-ever survey exhibition of Julien’s pioneering work, *Isaac Julien: What Freedom Is To Me*. This seminal installation artist and filmmaker has won numerous awards for his work. Julien was named the eleventh recipient of the Whitechapel Gallery’s prestigious Art Icon Award in 2024. In 2023, Julien was knighted by King Charles III.
