Sir Isaac Julien CBE RA was born in London in 1960. He is one of Britain’s most influential and critically acclaimed artists working today, who pioneered multi-screen installations.
In April 2023, the Tate Britain opened the United Kingdom’s first ever survey exhibition of Julien’s pioneering work, Isaac Julien: What Freedom Is To Me. This seminal installation artist and filmmaker has won many awards for his work. Julien was named the eleventh recipient of Whitechapel Gallery’s prestigious Art Icon Award in 2024. In 2023, Julien was knighted by King Charles III
