The Møller Collection and Piranesi
In 2023, the public had the opportunity to see the exhibition “Piranesi and the Modern” at the National Museum. As part of the exhibition, visitors could also view six photographs from the Møller Collection.
The Italian artist Giovanni Battista Piranesi is known, among other things, for his large-scale illustrations of Rome and its surroundings, his architectural fantasies, and his “dizzying staircases.” Through the exhibition, visitors were able to experience the significance his works have had in defining modernity across various art forms—including photography.
The photographs on loan from the Møller Collection and featured in the exhibition at the National Museum were:
Heinrich Heidersberger, Bankhaus Nicolai, Braunschweig (from 1964) on the far left; Heinrich Heidersberger, VW Kraftwerk, Wolfsburg (1971) at the top of the second row; Jan Splichal, Untitled below. Julie Jensen, Philadelphia (1980), at the top of the middle row, followed by Alvin Langdon Coburn, London (circa 1910/1915), and Rocky Schenk, Lost (1980s).
“Piranesi and the Modern” was on view from September 8, 2022, to January 9, 2023. You can read more about the exhibition here.
The photographs from the Møller Collection are on display daily either at the Møller Mobility Group’s offices at Frysja, located at Bygdøy allé 4, or in the Piir apartment at Harbitz Torg.
