Per Barclay at Gamle Deichmanske
In the spring of 2022, Gamle Deichman served as a studio for the internationally renowned Norwegian artist Per Barclay.
Barclay (b. 1955) works with spaces reflected in liquid, and in the distinctive main hall he constructed an oil pool that creates a reflective space. This is photographed and printed in large format.
A defining feature of Per Barclay’s art is precisely these so-called “oil rooms,” and this is the first “oil room” to be depicted in Norway.
The installation at Gamle Deichmanske was documented by the artist and will be featured in a new series of photographs. The entire series is part of the Henie Onstad Art Center’s major retrospective on Per Barclay in the summer of 2023, when it will be shown to the public for the first time.
The project is being carried out in collaboration with the Møller Collection and OSL Contemporary (Per Barclay’s gallery in Norway), and four of the images from the new photo series will eventually become part of the Møller Collection.
